Where do butterflies go in a snowstorm? Just asking.
I love this sonnet...I can feel the blue jays glare and a gruff ruffle of feathers at the swathe of cold that winter brings
Loved your sonnet...it's effortless for you
God bless happy thanksgiving

I believe butterflies migrate, in fact, I'm sure monarchs do :-) Thanks so much, Jenny :-) Blessings to you and yours. Brooke

Interesting topic for a sonnet, but well done (of course). Just shows that there are two sides to everything, yin and yang. Few sights more lovely than newly fallen snow on the landscape. Also, few tasks more annoying than shoveling your car out from under the intricately beautiful flakes that glisten like diamonds in the sunshine after the storm.

This is such a beautiful entry for the contest. Your talents and gifts never cease to amaze me. Indeed the weather, especially winter does as it pleases when it pleases. I only wish ours would make up its mind so I could put my warm weather clothes up for the year, it was near 80 the day before yesterday, but in the 30's just a day or so before.

I always look forward to seeing your name in my inbox.

Have a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving.
Smiles,
Teresa

A beautifully written and well composed sonnet indeed, Brooke. It's done perfectly, written in iambic pentameter, and conveys a tender, yet true, message. Even in the cold of winter, great beauty can be found. Virgin white snowfall. The twinkling of icicles, clinging desperately in the sun...

The volta in your ninth line occurs between the octave and the sestet, and before the final couplet, just as it should be in a Shakespearean or English sonnet.

Your rhyming, as usual, is impeccable, and the piece is wonderfully presented.

Excellent work, as always

Ah, Brooke, could any splendour outdo the splendour of your sonnets? I can envision the purity and crisp beauty of snow and ice even more because of the contrast you scribe in this very 'musical' poem. Best of luck in the contest!

You're right in that rotten old winter has a beautiful disguise, Brooke. Thankfully we rarely get much snow here, but it is great to see as it covers.

Excellent personification in this very nice read.

Cheers, Ray xx

Considering the winter vortex that's gripping most of North America, this is a brave sonnet to write. Yet, one can take solace, and does find it in your words that we can abide my contemplating winter's softer side. Loren

Very nice. I really like the picture and the poem. Only two lines to close is a different approach but the poem flows very nicely. I live in Florida so winter isn't quite as bad here.

Bill, thank you so much :-) One of the form requirements for the sonnet is to have a 14 line poem that consists of three quatrains followed by a closing couplet :-) Brooke

Wow! That is a nice picture. I don't remember EVER seeing a sonnet by you! I have no doubt you know the form well. This is a perfect sonnet of course. A nice twist on finding the beauty of the season. I have to send a virtual six as I am already out of them.Lots of great work this week! :<) Nancy
