Superb rhyme with this one. I can only guess that it is snowing where you are. So early for now and I have read it will only get worse...do hope you are prepared for the arctic storm that has been predicted. Very nice work with this one. Love the cute illustration you used too.

Valerie, thank you so much :-) We had our first coating last night - had to scrape my car off before I drove to the post office this morning. Can't complain too loudly because several states are under a couple feet of the stuff right now :-) Brooke

This poem is nice and very timely too, because the Winter's waved her wand where I live. The white stuff is everywhere, and very early this year. I haven't completely finished my yard clean up yet; in fact some of the trees haven't even lost all their leaves yet. Today feels more like mid-January than mid-November.

I mighta named this winter's wanderland. We had a breeze here and no pearls, even frost. Cold, sharp and hard as a
miser's heart. A fine wintry poem.

Yeah, where's a six when you need one?

Those first two lines are stunning, Brooke.
Pearling? And soft the sound. My favorite aspect of snow is the sound dampening. In fact, snow changes the sound of everything.

Winter's wand only gave us a lick and a promise.
I like the big ones, when the world sounds like cotton.

Peace, Lee

Thank you so much, my friend. I couldn't think of anything to write for a couple of days, so I just told myself to sit down and write something! I'm pretty good at bullying myself, and the coating of snow we got this morning was all I needed :-) I actually detest when it snows, but yeah, I like the sound dampening too - and it is pretty, if you don't have to deal with it in any sort of way. Last year I was stranded in my apartment for three entire weeks. I had to order food delivered from the grocery store for the first time in my life. UGH

Wow! Three weeks is a long time. I remember now that you guys got hit hard.
I was without power for seven days a few years ago. I now have a closet full of Sterno, and Progresso soups.
And as long as I don't lose power, I have a stand up freezer that could probably see me through to Saint Swithen's Day.
Of course, if I do lose power I lose all that food. Unless I can figure a way to roast a frozen turkey over a Sterno flame.

LOL - You should see my collection of Progresso after the store had them on sale for 88 cents a couple of weeks ago - I can also make it through a long winter. LOL Not all my neighbors were snowed in that long, but I have bad knees and there was no way I could dig my car out. I was going crazy by the time three weeks was up.
reply by humpwhistle on 14-Nov-2014
And none of your neighbors offered to help dig you out? Three weeks is a long time for neighbors to pretend not to notice.
I'm a pretty good cook, and like to make soups from the stock all the way up. But truth be told, Progresso soups are every bit as good as mine--except for the overcooked pasta.

apartment complexes are not neighborly places - I couldn't begin to tell you anyone's names and they don't know me from shit - all very sad...you're a good cook? you're looking better and better all the time ;-)

Hi Brooke :) This is really nice - I like the portrayal of Winter as being a white witch almost. Love the repeat line about Winter waving her wand - nice alliteration here also. All the -ing words are lovely - give a feel of movement and atmosphere to your poem.
Lovely!
Kindest regards as always, Debra x

I am so enamored of your art Brooke. The natural way you compose your rhymes is truly awesome. Most of all your last stanza has power that pulls in the previous ones. Once again I have learned from your skill. Rhyming couplets seems to be an easy format. The difficult part is the technical style, as I see it of course. Thank you for the wonderful write. Rod

Lovely poem, Brooke, simply lovely. I take it it's snowing where you are, LOL? or perhaps you're just forecasting the inevitable onslaught.

Great work, wonderfully rhymed and metered, as we are all so accustomed to.

Bravo! :}

Dean, thanks so much. We're lucky - I just had to scrape a coating off my car this morning - some areas of the country have a couple of feet. Brooke

Your white world is in constant motion with "swirling, twirling & whirling" Love the repetiton of "where the Winter's waved her wand." I wish I would've thought of that. Great alliteration. Deserving of a six, but it's Friday and my bank is empty. Your muse has done brilliantly! Les
