Just a glimmer... that's all we need to know Maureen will wake up and come back to us. Of course, being me, I had to go and research coma on the web. I'm worried that her pupils didn't react to light, although that is not proof of brainstem death. Besides, I THINK she's still breathing on her own. I wonder if the doctors have done the "doll's eye" test with her, but I don't ask for obvious reasons. Guess I'm just anxious, like all of us, to see that glimmer, some sign that she is still with us and will wake up.
We've lost other members that I knew, but never one I considered a friend. She called me sis. Always inspired me to keep enjoying life for the time I have. I pray, but that's all I can do. I feel so helpless. At least her family and Ted are with her, talking to her and doing all those correct things that have been proven to help. While the rest of us wait for that glimmer of light, checking her page every morning for news. There really aren't any words for it, but yours have come verrry close.

Thank you so much, Phyllis. I find the light in many different paths, not all leading to the Hollywood happy ending. I suppose that is why I don't feel helpless, for I don't see any alternative for Maureen as a lesser one. Brooke :-)

The octogram suits the subdued and beautiful cadence of this poem admirably. What an outpouring of hope and love and understanding there has been over the past week. Maureen has been such a wonderful inspiration to so many, "one spark against the theft of light" indeed.

Hi. What a beautiful Poem for Maureen. I am touched by the candle imagery, but the sad but hopeful feel...for the well wishes through the night.
It makes me sad, but I think so many cared for her, that her way foward will be filled with light.

So skillfully put together with a wonderful message. Love the lines "one spark against the theft of light" and "the heart knows more than thought discerns." Very true. I assume she is still hanging on by a thread?

You know this was very good- haunting and real and sweet- It also reminded me of a candle light vigil we held in the plaza years ago on DEC 1st it was one of the first Aids Days ever My spouse and I helped organize it and the statistics she came up with used the Christmas lights as an example- still remember that... beautiful thanks-Di

Poems in the main speak a lot about hope, which tells us much about life in this space/time continuum, doesn't it?
"Helpless pieces of the game He plays, on this checkerboard-" Excellent poem.

A poem for Maureen. Beautiful picture of a candle. A candle you and many burn for her. I can relate to what you wrote in your foot note.

A candle always burns and penetrates the night! I love this tribute you have offered Maureen, I only wish I had the experiences everyone has had with her work. God Bless!
