This is terrific! Straight from the first verse, and oh that last line in it ... and thistles coat the ground. I can feel the pain as one walks over this, representing just how bad the day is.
A funny face is all it takes
to turn a day around --
when puddles dry and hornets fly
and thistles coat the ground.
I should be pasting each verse, they're all as good as each other, but this one opens a perfect ongoing verse. I relate to each one.
I love your children's poetry.

Another fine poem with great rhyming and rhythm as always in your poems. And another great poem about a fun day in the life of little-man Sawyer.

You have always been a prolific and gifted
poet in many different phases, but your
children stories, tales that bring the child
in all of us back to those wonderful times
where you shine like some bright star in
a dark and forbidding night.
Well done

Yes, some days don't go quite as planned, especially in the life of a youngster who's just discovering all the novelties of the world around him. Cute pictures. Excellent rhyming and descriptive words to convey your thoughts. Most enjoyable as always. Faye

This is yet another beautiful piece of writing that the author has created with this post. A funny face and a positive outlook on life are very important if we are to survive this life.

Hi Brooke :) I really enjoyed this poem. The jaunty rhythm, internal rhyming and the simple truth of your words make for a fun and entertaining read. I had to laugh at the line about peas! It reminded me of a much younger me... I loathed peas but I had to eat them or I didn't get pudding!
Love the photos... Who's day wouldn't be turned around for the better with those funny faces?!
Loved it :) kindest regards as always, Debra

This is one of your best, Brooke. You do a sensational job of DESCRIBING times when a funny face is really helpful.
What really impressed me, however, is how naturally you handled the internal rhyme in each quatrain. Superb!

Oh, Brooke, this was simply enchanting. I loved these series of smiling faces, the mother and son look so happy. You are right - a smiling face could turn the day around, and bring a little sunshine into our lives.
A funny face is all it takes
to turn a day around --
when puddles dry and hornets fly
and thistles coat the ground.
You are so good with your words, Brooke, such a wordsmith, I never cease to admire your choices.
I loved this composition, and it deserves nothing less than a six.

"A funny face is all it takes to turn a day around." Love this poem. It reminds me of the "Happy" song that is so popular now. Great rhyme scheme - great picture - great poem! 8-)
