This brings tears and the thoughts that burst, like bright sparks to help lead her from the dark...if only we could.
Brooke big hugs to you and for Maureen too.
I love your poems that kindle kindness sparks

What a beautiful tribute to one of the finest poets on this site. Emotionally deep, and straight from the heart. A candle has always been a sign of hope. Maybe our energy will work wonders. I hope! Superb! Les

This is a powerful tribute to your friend Maureen. The reference to light dispelling darkness
"for while despair dwells deep in dark,
hope lives within the slightest spark",
captures the feeling of hope amid despair. Your poem was written with deep emotions and caring and the words paints the picture of calm that comes with just a spark of light. It reminds me of a quote I used in my book "An Unexpected Journey"
"Here's the amazing thing -- light trumps darkness, every time.
You can stick a light into the dark,
but you can't stick the dark into the light." Writer Unknown.
The six rating is well deserved.
God bless
Tony

This looks like a hard form to write, but you did a bang up job. A well written ode to Maureen Napier and it contains all our hope that she returns to health.

Just as long as the candle burns giving of its light and heat there is hope.

It is a wonderful piece of artwork and an apt illustration for your poem.

Keep writing.

Joan

This is a very well-written poem. The emotions expressed are heartfelt. I liked these lines best:

for while despair dwells deep in dark,
hope lives within the slightest spark.

Well done!

Yes, where there is life there is hope. One must never give up, always have faith. Lovely tribute written for a dear fellow poet. I have said a prayer for her, also. Good use of metaphorical language and rhyming to convey your sincerest thoughts. Very peaceful poem. Faye

Very lovely tribute to Maureen. I would also like to think of it as a candle burning for our country that is in the darkness of danger and decay right now. I really like the phrase "theft of light." Lovely, Brooke.

So that's an octogram. I do like the unusual (to me) construction, and note the strength and cohesion of the differing rhyme patterns.
I like the on-going contrast of light and dark with the emphasis on light as a hope which continually burns, in many given situations.

Warmly,

Juliette

A beautiful prayerful poem for our beloved sister and friend. I am sure her children will be deeply touched by your gesture, dear B.

The first stanza particularly inspired and sounds super read aloud with the internal rhyme and fine poetic devices woven in:

Though dark would spread the realm of night,
a candle burns,
one spark against the theft of light
when doubt returns,
for while despair dwells deep in dark,
hope lives within the slightest spark.
For every heart that ever yearns,
a candle burns.

Superb rhymes and fine alliteration on D, S and E as well as of consonance and alliteration of W and assonance of E nicely achieved between despair and theft and dwells.

Potent line:
One flame can penetrate the night --

Lots of fine rhymes.

A beautiful sentiment, well portrayed in fine fluid form.

Amen.

Warmly, rd

This is a beautiful and apt poem at this time of Maureen's journey, Brooke. You remind, that while there's life there's hope. The candle is the metaphor (a strongly connective image for Christians) and the spark is the life that brave Maureen still fights with despite the loaded dice of her condition. A wonderful tribute.
