Beautifully done. Great description of the sea's siren call, and its appeal. It's like a Siren's call, putting those who hear it under its spell. Great lines "Like a lover who can't resist a seductress who gets her way." It seems like the call persists, day or night. judi

I enjoyed your mixed meter quatrains, Brooke. Something a little different, and very effective. Looks like Ms. Routley is a VanGogh admirer. Lovely presentation. :) Nancy

This is a beautiful work about the allure of the mysterious sea, no wonder the writers and mariners have written and spoken of ' sirens ' drawing them to a place of beauty and peace! It is a pleasure to review your poetry Brooke, beautiful even meter and easily understood narrative and a sound rhyme scheme! Blessings, Roy.

Delightful Brooke, the time you took
to show us something flowing
another page from the sage
to help us with our knowing

Great poem! I very much like the mood and the flow, it is like sea. My poems of the sea are dark.

Where is this God they promised me
That left me in this cold gray Sea
Let time and time and time begin
This pain upon my childhood skin
....then just sinks lower from there. Yours I find peaceful.

The allure of the sea can be a great one for many people. This poem personifies the sea giving it the ability to control us, entice us in the come hither of its waves. The writer formats this quatrain poem with solid meter and creates a tone that is enchanting, yet insistent in delivery. The poem flows seamlessly from one stanza to the next as a result of the consistent rhythmic structure uniting the poem from start to finish. The photograph incorporated with this piece allows the poem to speak volumes more through the illustration. I also think the choice of the deep blue background used for this piece evokes thoughts of the deep blue hues found within the sea. The use of the golden yellow font can be connected to the final stanza where the "glow of the midnight moon" is mentioned. The poem creates intense imagery throughout as the writer vividly describes the sea's allure. The analogy of comparing the sea to a temptress in the fourth stanza is perfect in comparison since the sea can be like a lover to those lonely fishermen spending days at sea. I also like the way the writer repeats the line "In the glow of the midnight moon" in the first and last stanza to give the setting greater impact. I found this poem to be spot on in its portrayal of the sea and the cohesive nature of this piece allow it to flow and ebb much like the sea itself in a pleasing manner to the reader. I feel this poem's precise word choice and realistic description allow me to award it nothing less than six stars. Exquisite wording to help the reader envision the beauty and tempting qualities of the sea! Very well done!

This was a really good poem. Presented vivid imagery. It flowed graceful, was easy to follow. Meter, and rhyme were timed well, and the subject kept my interest. The finale was also excellent. Good work, and God bless.

Valerie, thank you for the laugh and the review, my head-spinning friend :-) Do you know what makes my head spin like that? Directions, like sewing patterns or appliance instructions or directions on how to assemble Ikea furniture. :-) Brooke

Now that is what I am good at. I can take sewing pattern and make a better one. I can now sew without a pattern. I do pretty good with instructions on how to put things together, I just figure out a better, and faster way to do it. Just don't ask me to write a poem with meter...it ain't gonna happen!

In the glow of the midnight moon
through the crash of the restless sea,
a voice within the roiling waves
reaches out to beckon

I love the word roiling. So poetic.

Really appreciate the author notes. Enhances the appreciation on the second read.
