This is just wonderful! I smiled all the way through it and laughed with tears by the time I reached the end! (I'm like that!) I must read this to my eldest little grandson (I think he'll love it - as a matter of fact he'll want to read). It's a fantastic children's story with excellent flow, rhythm and rhyme and teaches a lovely lesson about squirrels and oak trees. Thanks so much for sharing :)

I love the wit of your counting poems ... soon I will be able to count to ten without using my fingers or toes.
"ten little digits wiggling on my feet" ... OMG ... just too too gruesome .. better leave the expert to the counting poems. It's Dean's influence I swear. Well I don't swear .... awe shucks .... just close that big mouth of mine. :)))
A lovely set of images as I work my way through your poem. Everyone loves an acorn tree ... well all the squirrels I know.
"but then they got evicted" ... 'but then one got evicted" ???
I grew up with an oak next to my driveway ... grew too large and blocked the road view ... then OUCH ... the neighbours chopped it down.
Apart from counting, I think many of us have memories of climbing, shaking, and also the fascination of those acorns. I was besotted with the look of them.
Many of them hacked down for 'development' in my city of Sydney. Your poem stirs a lot in my mind ... mostly smiles. Great work. I can see a series of picture/poem counting books. Hugs - Lovi xoxoxo

As rare as hen's teeth ... a typo in a Brooke poem. lol I did have to stammer and wonder if I 'd eaten too much chocolate before I was sure...

As always, you had me smiling! Last year, my granddaughter Lail, was visiting, and she too acorns, hickory nuts and a tennis ball. She planted all in the middle of my lawn. Two trees came up, but no tennis court! Always warm regards, Bill

I feel as if I already know you and little Sawyer. What a dear. I really admire your smooth rhyming and wise helpful hints. I always try to listen to them and learn. Were you an English teacher?

I taught middle and high school in a special writing program. Each day of the week I would go to a different English class, so the English teacher was doing things like spelling, grammar and literature with them. I was there for them to write essays, sometimes personal, sometimes responses to the lit they were reading. I would grade the papers and hold individual conferences with them.

Another great counting poem, Brooke. They seem so simple, but I know when I tried to assemble one, they were anything but simple. As for as the tiny acorn, they are collecting in my yard as I type and I will enjoy peeping out my window in the morning to see Mr. Squirrel gathering his winter stash. 8)
