Oh, God. The crap we put up with from our kids until they're finally ready to be released into polite society at the age of 30! When you see them laughing with their friends, you start to hope that their sense of humor is developing and soon they'll understand your quips, but no way!
I think pet-o-phile is one of the funniest expressions I've ever heard.
Chuck must love you to have weathered Lauren's long climb to adulthood.
Thanks for the usual laughs.

I'm pleased to report that
Lauren appreciates Chuck--indeed, considers him the father she wished she'd had.
Apparently, she conflated Pet and Ped and thus associated the word into a pervert who molests dogs! (A friend coined that brilliant word, wish I had.)
So glad you enjoyed the piece--I had a ball with this one--this interchange is immortalized in our family lore. Cheers. LIZ

I had a good laugh at this one. This story is cleverly written. Title is extremely efficient in advancing the storyline. Well done. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Liz :)
I enjoyed reading this. It made me laugh - I'm presuming that Lauren misconstrued your meaning and feared for Puplet's innocence!
'business trip' - is that what I think it is? (toilet trip) If so, love the term of phrase.... if not, what is it?!
Does Lauren get along with Chuck now?
Thanks for another enjoyable read :)
Best wishes as always, Debra

Business trip is indeed a euphemism!

This is so funny poorChihuahua :"As she turned toward me, I said: Chuck is an inveterate pet-o-phile.
Lauren glared. Clutching Puplet to her chest, she retorted:
Don't you dare let him touch my dog!" Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings.

That's a cute wordplay. I am glad that Lauren has Puplet and that you are so flexible to have so many animals in the home. It sounds like Lauren and Chuck get along well now. Thanks for sharing.

You had me at: Twelve years ago this month, I swapped out John, a delusional, debt-ridden drunk, for Chuck, who is (semi) sane, solvent, and sober.
Such a clever little lady, you are. I don't know why I'm speaking Yoda, but it's Friday!
I didn't know you could even pet chihuahuas, evil little bastards, but I love them all the same'
Word googled: inveterate

My, how great a misunderstanding the mishearing of a word--by just one letter--can cause! Your well-composed, concise story is amusing and clever, made me laugh.

What a cute little dog. I enjoyed your story, Liz. I would say you had good intentions that went sour. Your word choices work well, the words create great imagery, and the story flows well. I find it rude for her to harp on you for your pick of men--one of them being her father. Without him, she would not have a leg to stand on.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

I've been saving this six all week, which doesn't happen often, for something that puts a big smile on my face. Thanks, to you and Puplet! Thanks for sharing.
