RE: Buying extra 6s
Thank you for the suggestion! There are no plans to increase the number of six stars. Six stars were put in place because it was clear early on with FanStory that it is difficult for most reviewers to give lower ratings.

So the "six star" was born. Getting a six star means a lot because there are so few. Adding more would take away from that.

Thanks,
Tom

What if you could "earn" extra sixes the same way you earn FS Dollars --by reviewing?

I do agree with Diane, though: ten free sixes a week would be wonderful. Telling members I'm giving them a "virtual six" because I've used up my allotment that week feels so lame.

Thank you for the suggestions. Sixes based on reviewing may be a possibility. It's worth looking at.

Thanks again,
Tom

i'll take a virtual six... it's the thought that counts, right?

i think we get enough sixers... they special... if there were more, they may lose their specialness...

RE: Buying extra 6s

More sixes would simply be used as most members now use fives because they will not use the FanStory rating system as it is designed.

They do not want to "hurt" feelings, or step on any toes, by giving four or less stars (as a general rule, not everyone does this).

What would be the next request? Seven stars which would replace the current sixes?

If the FanStory review system was simply used the way it is designed to be used there would be more than plenty of sixes available now.

Believe this debate about the FanStory review system, and additional sixes, have been discussed repeatedly before.

RE: Buying extra 6s

I agree with the number of 6s as it stands now. It keeps them special.
The one thing I had thought of...there are some weeks that I don't use them all...just wasn't overall an outstanding week, and some weeks they're gone too early. It would have been nice to carry over the ones from the previous week.

RE: Buying extra 6s
That seems like a good idea Julie, but it could lead to ranking issues at year end. I think we can agree the site has changed over the years and that's a good thing as stagnation can become a thing.

Each year brings an influx of new members, and I must say this year's writers are among the best I've ever seen in my 13 years here. To me, using the six stars is one of the most stressful aspects of the reviewing process and I can totally understand why people use them all before Monday's end. Using six stars all at once eliminates the stress and one can just proceed with reviewing.

The distribution of six stars has changed over the years. I remember the time when one member could only award the same member two six stars a month. I learned this from Adewpearl who assiduously wrote sixty reviews every day. Something I have never achieved. Restricting the use of stars puts an onus of responsibility on the site for controlling the distribution of six stars. She also reciprocated reviews which I thought was a good practice and one that I attempted to emulate for a few years.

One of the great tragedies of this site is that she was never once given the Reviewer of the Month award. Brooke knew her poetry inside out and beyond the obvious, sadly, it went unrecognized.

I have seen members who never used their six stars. I think that's also a good strategy. Another member didn't reply to reviews but would instead give a review to those who had reviewed him. Another good call when one is strapped for time and the process is used strategically. A reply and nomination should be given for the Reviewer of the Month to a reviewer who spent a good deal of time writing a helpful review.

1) I think members should be allowed to purchase extra six stars with real money

2) I think members who review a lot should given extra six stars

3) I think everyone who disagrees with me should think again

Thank you for reading.

RE: Buying extra 6s
What if we could have x amount of 6s to give to prose and script writing, and x amount for poems. I think that would be a way to go and be fair.
