FLUFF REVIEWS

Thread Started December 18 at 1:54AM

<< Thread Modifed December 18 at 2:11AM >>

I actually posted this on 'profile thoughts' but decided it was probably more valid to post on the forum and get other's opinions.

I really hate the expression 'fluff reviews".
The fact that someone has gone to the time and trouble to review one's work is great effort within itself.
We have over 400 plus supposedly active writers on FanStory so there are a lot of posts to read.
Sometimes small poems such as haiku and 2-4-2 and 4 line poems make it hard to reach the minimum words that are allowed as a review. Obviously there are many methods and techniques used by reviewers to reach that minimum allowable word count for short reviews:
Repeating/ rewriting the verse in your comments
Summarizing the read with other words meaning the same thing
Embellishing with big metaphorical words
Explain to the author what poetic techniques have been used

There is only so much one can say on poems with 3 lines
no matter how hard one tries
Please don't be offended with reviews and reviewers that might use these techniques to 'fatten' or lengthen the review.
Everyone tries very hard to give credible reviews with all works but sometimes it is hard to reach the minimum allowable limit of text.

I will leave this whole situation laying right here because the entire matter is now painted crystal clearly in my mind and there is absolutely no misunderstanding whatsoever. The proven response to members of this site who have unquestionably been subjected to snide comments and cheap shots is to attempt to make unfunny comical remarks. Whoop-di-do! I am sure they really appreciate that. However, that says everything that needs to be said doesn't it? Should they have expected anything differently? No! There is no need for any further comment on this subject.

Your comments clearly expressed your thoughts on the subject, and that's fine, but that doesn't mean I have to accept your response...I pay for the privilege to post here, and that includes this forum...there is no one voice here!

Every single member can express themselves just as you have, that's what a forum is all about...

Just Some Thoughts!

I've found that honest reviews/critiques are now truly wanted. When mistakes are pointed out, or improvements suggested, the author will say they are going to leave it the way it is, if they even respond.

My deduction is some people don't want a true critique. There are a few that shouldn't ask for them, too.

I, too, have noticed that some ask for reviews in
their reviews of others.

Snide comments??? That comment here in the forum
Dr D about Brett not being a good defense lawyer is a
snide comment IMHO. It matters not that you wrote LOL.

If you have to qualify your comment with that OVERUSED
lol, then probably what you wrote is inappropriate.

I think it's time to put this to bed. No matter how much griping and complaining is done, people are not going to change the way they review. I'm happy with the ones I get, and most are honest reviews. For REALLY honest critiques, join a class. The instructor will be totally honest, and that's good. After learning and applying what he teaches, you will get more honest reviews.

Thank you for all your opinions healthy discussion is always good.

I suppose at the end of the day opinion and review content is in the eye of the individual what one sees as hard or unfair others may seem as a fair one.

If others want to see remarks or explanations as 'snide comments" be it, I just wish they were not taken out of context and egos didn't come into play.

Please feel free to private message me if you have any issues Brett I am sure any misunderstandings could be erased.

Merry Christmas everyone
