Cardinals on wing cause me to sing

A chapter in the book Heart Cafted Poems - 2020

He and She

by JLR

He and She visit me everyday
I never cease to be in awe
of their display of companionship.

He will sing a sweet tune and
while away time, until she arrives
and shares his limb.

His feathers red, hers speckled white
and black, far from blended in
the forest green pretending not to be seen.

As October nights chill the air,
on the tips the leaves,
abiding the cold,
put on a color show ever so bold.

The cardinals, both he and she
are blending more fully in the
rusting of leaves, I watch until,
at last, they too leave.
