Shakespearean sonnet about autumn and drought

Signs in the Canyons

by CrystieCookie999

This drought has left the driest calm behind,
and summer dreams are lost in fallen leaves,
among these granite stones, sunlight-defined,
between such reddish rocks and stony sleeves.
The blur of bluish jays refreshes views
of tree-full autumn, if we'd just attend
to browning greens above, with simpler news
of how these stalwart trees refuse to bend.
Yet autumn also hides a crueler face.
Long months of arid heat means food is scarce—
no serviceberries left to store in case
of deadly winter's horrid, hungry stares.
As crackled dryness voices darker tones,
more flaking leaves descend to rest on stones.
