Quantum leap into Time

Garden of Eden

by zanya

I recall my halycon, early days in the Garden of Eden with aromas to delight the nostrils. Rivers flowed with pristine waters , the Tigris and the Euphrates. Aromatic resin and onyx filled the air. Animals of every shape and hue, four-legged and two-legged , stood before me.

It was I, Adam, standing beside them who gave each one a name. On receiving their nomenclature, they nuzzled my bare flesh in a gesture of thanks.

Some animals had coats of fur, soft as silk. Others were clothed in strong, powerful skins. Some neighed, others barked or screeched. Birds with brightly colored plumage perched in the trees, sung melodious songs.

God decided it was not good for me to be alone. One afternoon I fell into a deep sleep. Perfume filled my nostrils on awakening. There beside me lay this beautiful creature, with golden hair and deep brown eyes, who smiled, rejoicing in the beauty of the surroundings. A heavenly voice spoke,'she shall be called woman. Her name is Eve.'

My lonely heart rejoiced. Together we strode through the Garden.
Our days were filled with love for each other and for creation.

One day Eve heard rustling in the undergrowth. Shuddering, she said,'Adam,' there is a strange presence in our Garden.'
'Eve,' I replied,' No there is just you and me and the birds and animals and nature.'

Later, I whispered a prayer of gratitude for Eve, whose Third Eye seemed more alert than mine.

Waking from an afternoon rest, Eve was not there lying beside me. I felt a strange emotion, like fear.

I called out,'Eve, where are you?'

I heard rustling in the foliage. Eve appeared but not as before. She was carrying a beautiful red apple in her hand. Her eyes were blazing.
'Adam,' she said, 'taste this delicious apple. You will be enlightened. An iridescent, slithery serpent uncoiled slowly in the undergrowth and  presented it to me, to eat.'

Glancing at the rosy-red apple, an unpleasant odour filled my nostrils. Shivering, I replied,'Eve, no I will not eat this red apple. Cast it from you. It is defiled.'

Eve laughed a harsh, loud guffaw.
Urgently removing the apple from her hand, I threw it deep into the foliage.

Eve fell on her knees in the foliage, wracked by painful, loud sobs.

The quiet of evening descended on Eden as I sat beside Eve, who had fallen into a deep sleep.
On awakening, Eve told me of a bad dream she had where a dark shadow fell on her and an ugly form appeared, offering her bright, red apples.

Placing my hand on her shoulder, I soothed her, saying, 'Eve let's not stray through the undergrowth. Let's live in the light. Our descendants may be grateful to us. We do not fully understand how a bite of this red apple could have transformed our descendants lives.'

So Adam and Eve and their myriad of descendants lived happily ever after in the Garden of Eden.
