a 100-word story
Fathers Day
by Bill Schott
I open an eyelid. My world is the vision of one starboard eye. That world scans as a beige room with white drapes. Movement is limited to my right forearm and two fingers. They bend up from an otherwise motionless body to fill my seeing world with a wave. The door opens, apparently detected by a working ear, and before me assemble my children. Each boy and girl winks and waves to me, as I do the same. They are young again, and happy to see me. Now she comes into view. The love of my life returns for me.
