Things that make me happy.

Happiness

by BethShelby

Happiness is like bubbles.
It is a fleeting thing,
sprinkling us with tiny joys--
allowing hearts to sing.

You asked what makes me happy.
Let me count the ways.
I fear if I should name them,
it might take many days.

My eyes tell me I’m happy
when rainbows I behold--
sunsets, bright smiles and roses--
fall leaves that turn to gold.

My ears tell me I’m happy
when I hear songs I love.
Sounds of nature make me smile,
like cooing from a dove--

The voices of my children--
a phone call from a friend--
a poem with lilting rhythm--
a concert I attend.

My heart tells me I’m happy,
just knowing that friends care--
the knowledge my kids love me--
and answers to a prayer.

I’m not a Pollyanna;
sometimes I have to cry,
but focusing on good things
will cause my tears to dry.

There’s many happy moments
to make my life content.
I seize them as they happen
as blessing Heaven sent.
