My Cowboy Brother

by G.B. Smith

Dedicated to my dear friend. Written at the time of his death

Each of us will have a cowboy enter our lives.
They come in so many disguises, shapes, and forms.
Mine came with a dry whit, a cute little grin, and a wheeze of a laugh.
He was always quick to love and slow to criticize, and loved me without question.

My cowboy was a man's man.
He could ride, rope, and make any chef cringe in their own kitchen.
He masqueraded as a truck driver, but always a cowboy was he.

He has gone home now to that great Father in the sky,
but he will always be in our hearts.
There is no doubt of where you will find him.
He's right there in the corner of our hearts,
just between midnight and sunrise.

Larry is the one who sent me the little thing I published If you are unhappy. I was feeling sorry for myself and it helped turm me around. He's been gone now for 11 (8-18-2002) years and I miss him still
