My 2020 NaPoWriMo Prologue

by sunnilicious

April is National Poetry Writing Month (aka NaPoWriMo 2020). This new year hasn't been easy emotionally for me. And now, I must include talking about the pandemic.

I don't care what I eat, once I eat... However, I'm still somehow finicky. I hope everyone is housed and fed to say the least. Toilet paper is like a guarantee to happiness. Surreal is like an understatement. And this crazy stuff is going on around the globe. I am upset about all of it.

I read online about 17 people that contracted Coronavirus in my community at a nearby nursing home: 10 employees critical, 5 patients critical and 2 patients dead. Instant shock. Why is there a nursing home in my neighborhood? Why do I live near an airport? Am I going to get sick? Why did I cry for total strangers? How to deal?

I would like to be optimistic and happy in writing my poetry. And if I can't be, the simplest thing is to dive into writing about nature like animals, pets, flowers, gardens, plants, etc...

Others call me names like heartless and unemotional in my creative writings. Let me tell you something, I would love to be an idealistic woman, married to the world's greatest husband with a child or three, living a suburban fairytale and writing about my selfish family in ignorant bliss. Life just isn't what it should be for me. But then, it is what it has become. Call me whatever... I could call you a few names too.

Anyways, I can't make any promises more than delivering an originally written poem a day for thirty (30) consecutive days. Maybe, I'll be angry and depressing. It would be fresh. Maybe, I should stick to the official writing prompts. That might be disturbing because of the graffiti theme, "See Something New.".

Finally, I would like to thank my family, friends and acquaints for supporting my artistic endeavors. I look forward to reading the work of my fellow FanStorians too. Good luck to everyone participating in this annual poetry writing event.

Be careful, stay safe & strong. God bless you.

Love always,
Alicia

PS... Minutes after writing this prologue (on my iPhone at 1am PST on 03/30/2020), the NaPoWriMo website changed this year's artwork and theme. The newest theme is "It's Party Time" and the artwork is a photograph of a relatable park.

PPS... I still do not know what to expect. I don't want to trash my original prologue. I sincerely wrote it for my audience. And so, I added to my prologue in postscript (aka post scriptum) to you.

PPPS... Hearts and hugs.
