Party For One

by LisaMay

I hear music and laughter next door --
they’re students, a party of four.
While I, all alone, make do with the phone.
My ‘fun’ is to wash the floor.

As I hunker in my bunker
with only me, myself and I,
I’ll resist the urge to cry.
There’s no beer for false cheer
so I’ll have another cup of tea.
This seems surreal -- a fantasy.

My bored games need a friend,
an ear to my moans they'd lend.
I can’t make whoopee when it’s lonely, just me.
I wonder when will it end,
and will I go round the bend?

No, not me, I’m resilient you see.
Imagination is free!
A party of one provides different fun --
I can write this crap poetry.

Author's Note;
My whole country, New Zealand, is in lockdown. We have to stay home in our immediate "bubble" of family groups and housemates. My bubble is a solitary one.
So far NZ has had no deaths, but the infection level is rising rapidly.
