Fighting my battles.

Passive Resistance

by LisaMay

My tender heart wears a bruise
when your hard words assault me.
You’ve boxed me into a corner
and wrestled me to the mat;
now, twisting the knife,
you say that I’m a loser.

I hold firm to what I know,
gathering strength while tasting dust.
You think you have the upper hand
while you push me to my knees.
Just look into my eyes –
you’ll see it isn’t so.

You’ve tried to drown my dream,
but my flame still burns within –
cold water just revives me,
though you’ve poured it with hot scorn.
You’ll never dampen my spirit
now I have a head of steam.
