My resume includes a time once spent
Writing up the news and views to print,
Meeting the deadline for the next edition
Relating the facts, not mere supposition...

So, when news - I now get from my TV -
Reports a paper's death, it does hurt me.
I remember the days, the friends, the ink,
Late nights, coffee, and facing a brink.

Some say newspapers' demise is due
To their political bend, that may be true,
As many became merely a voice
For the pols or party of their choice...

But, I think it more mere evolution
Of technology more than print pollution.
Radio was first to offer competition
To a town awaiting the "next edition".

Next, it was TV, when boosted by cable
Offered more than print on my table.
There was action, color, wide variety
From the world, 24/7, there on my TV!

As if that weren't enough to kill old print,
Then came internet and there it went!
Entertainment and social media's rise
Replaced newspapers' dullness in our eyes.

Ships with sails once ruled seven seas
Now, only a few survive as curiosities...
Am I sad? As with the passing of a friend,
But, life goes on. Stop the press. The End.
