Melancholy thoughts this winter morning

One

by A. Willow Bends

I am but one
single, solitary soul
standing, watching snowflakes
blowing hazily, lazily
across the landscape
this blustery, winter morn

neither wealth nor fame have I
nothing to create changes
so desperately needed

I can walk back into
my house of warmth
while some have cardboard shelters
I can lean on my loved ones for support
while some have no one
to whom they can turn
I can wrap myself in a blanket
while others live in rags
I can wish for world peace
then watch horrific bloodshed on the news
I can nourish my body
while others starve worldwide

one
I am but one
a lonely, desolate feeling
yet, I am reaching out to you
do you feel it?

create warmth for someONE today
one small gesture of humanity
one

I spend time each morning offering prayers for others, but very often overlook all I have to be so very thankful for, the little things I take for granted. Today, I plan to step out of my cocoon and go check in on my sister (Parkinson's) and just see if she has what she needs for the next couple days of crappy winter weather, maybe go to lunch if she is up to it, just hang out and get her out for a bit. My husband is joining me to do some little fix up for her on her shower. It only takes small gestures to make someone's day. I hope you join me in the effort to maybe just once a week or once a month to step out and make someone's day. We are all busy, but OH! what a difference we can make to someone by small gestures.
