Are the Himalayas
just another range of mountains?
or Halley's comet
just another light in the sky?
Wordsworth, Kipling, Poe, Tennyson
just ordinary writers?

I expect the extraordinary in life.
The wine in the crystal glass,
the best I ever tasted.
The next whistle of the red winged blackbird,
sharper and clearer than the notes before.

I expect unicorns in my dreams,
children to laugh, clowns to entertain.
A dog's tail to wag.
The acorn I planted to become oak.

And I expect to build upon our kiss
miracle upon miracles.
