Santa visit with a difference

Roo-Deer

by Wils

Santa arrived Down Under
Reindeer dripping sweat
A balmy 22 degrees
Hottest Aussie evening yet

Took a whistle from his pocket
Shiny, with a silent shrill
Pursed his lips around it
Blew it hard, until

From the horizon came a rumble
Slowly an image did appear
Nine big boomer kangaroos
To replace the hot reindeer

Three roos up front as lookout
To direct the way to go
Four more in the middle
Making sure things weren't going slow

The last two down back as present guard
Their job could cause some ouch
To make sure all gifts stayed where they were
And none wound up in the pouch.

The faithful team of kangaroos
Fought through the stifling heat
Hopped on through Australia
A time limit to meet

They did the job in record time
Hopped on every lawn
Bounded upon every roof
Delivered presents until dawn

When the last gift had been dropped
The last ho ho had been sung
They pulled up at the resting place
Where the reindeer had been rung

Roos carefully unhitched themselves
Swapped places with the deer
With a booming Christmas call
Santa flew off to countries near

I wrote this three years ago. Everyone knows reindeer are no good Down Under
