After The Fall

by LisaMay

Oh, fallen woman!
She fell under his spell and fell in love.
Her panties fell down –
what a failure of cheap elastic!
He failed to resist temptation,
failed to disclose he was a married man,
and failed to put an end to their
raunchy moral failure.

She failed to see why he should not be hers.
Oh woe, such a failure of judgment!
And such a failure of synchronicity –
bad timing – in another place, another time…
Why, oh why?… sigh.

She failed to factor in
that he’d be spending Christmas
playing happy families – what a farcical fantasy,
a deceptive failure of truth.

He failed to keep his word they’d meet.
Thinking painful thoughts of him,
driving around alone, in the failing light of dusk,
failing to pay attention
she failed to keep to the speed limit
and failed to take the corner.
The car’s brakes failed.
Her seatbelt failed.
She fell out with God.
Messy Christmas.

Her young life failed to live up to expectations –
like this poem probably has.
