Remorse

by persevere

My children had found a dead peacock. They dragged it home.

Ken, the youngest had heard that possession of a peacock feather brings good luck. He thus set about plucking a few plumes before a burial was performed.

He proceeded to our front gate where, standing under a FOR SALE sign, he did a brisk business.

That night he was restless.

In the morning, I caught sight of him by the grave.
He appeared to be exhuming the peacock.

"Ken, what are you doing?"

"I feel so sorry for the peacock. I need to give him the money back.
They were his feathers!"
