Fallen Tree

by JLR

I saw a tree in the forest fall
one standing, once stately, very tall.
The wind, at the time, at a lull.
Doves, mourning, in the forest fall.

I walked this forest many a time.
Enjoy, I did, the sun rays shine,
canopy ov'rhead
 was a shrine,
amidst this forest many a time.

Finely tuned animals chorusing voices,
chant, bemoaning natures odd choices,
Faunas' chants become praise rejoices,
Perfect pitch the animals chorusing voices.

Shelter and nourishment, the tree became,
Cover and food for more than some,
foraging, with winter to come,
More and new life's work the tree became

Still, as I walk near the fallen remains,
a new sapling in the ground gains.
The sun above, new feet sustains,
new life grows near the fallen remains.

To this tree, I return always intently,
season after season walking by gently,
