A chapter in the book Part 5 2019

by Barb Hensongispsaca

'My life is over, deary me.
What will I do, 'cause all will see?
I look so bad, I don't dare smile -
I'll hold my hand up for awhile.'

I have a story, you will laugh
and probably think me quite daft.
I'm seventy and extra, too,
have my own teeth minus a few.

My dentist said one front was bad
and took out half which made me sad.
He filled it in, it looked so good,
I smiled again just like I should.

But one fine day, the filling fell
right out my mouth - I felt unwell.
Reflection in the mirror gave me
a sight I did not want to see.

A fast trip to the dentist next
to have that slightly-off smile fixed.
I walked out smiling yet again
and feeling good 'bout life ... and then ...

those darling elves of fate stepped in,
I lost that half - I couldn't win.
Four times that tooth refused to hold
and I decided I'm too old

to stop enjoying life, and smile
and just go through each day with style.
I started to be me again
despite that hole that will remain.

My 'f's and 'p's I can't pronounce
and any plurals seem to bounce.
Phone conversations are quite strained,
repeating words, I get quite drained.

My crown repair won't come for months
and no more fillings do I want.
I've let go of my vanity
'cause no one seems to care but me.
