Hope for Sadness

by moonsunrise

Longing to hear your voice and see your face
Wondering whether this could be real or fake
You were our sun, our star, our joy, our grace
Your smile would light up the darkest room
Sadness has encircled our time and our space
It's surreal!

Feeling lifeless and lost in essence most days
While longing to hold you just one more time
Becomes the mindset in a never ending maze
Mourning your tragic loss is intolerably harder
The stinging pain in heart becomes a blaze
It's surreal!

Standing by your grave knowing you are there
Seeing your name and the pictures on the stone
Reality shock makes this even harder to bear
How could you have left us here in the shadows?
Was your situation too unbearable to even care?
It's surreal!

You always seemed happy and content with life
Was this just a disguise to conceal all the pain?
Knowing we were too blind to see cuts like a knife
The veiled mask you wore was very convincing
Wondering what might have worked to save your life
It's surreal!

Most mornings are tough but nights are even worse
Thoughts and memories spent with you ever flow
Sleepless hours now have become a reckless curse
Consummation of thoughts as we have no answers
The finality so painful as onlookers see the hearse
It's surreal!

Such is the life that we are forced to live without you
Happiness must be found sharing the things you loved
Being outdoors, sitting by a fire, kayaking, staying true
To your memory until we meet again sweet nephew
If only, if only, if only, if only, if only, if only we knew
It's surreal!

Losing a loved one especially one so young does not seem real even after these four months. Faith and family will get us through though we know this will not be easy. He loved life, never spoke harsh of anyone, always had a smile on his face and would be there for anyone in need. Why? We may never know until we one day see him again in heaven.
