The Apple Path

by Sally Law

~~~~~
I took a walk and hurried on down
a path offering apples kissed by the sun.
I wouldn’t be delayed or turned aside,
as if to have some childlike fun.
A girl on a strategic mission, I was;
apples were calling a taunting reply.
Red and delicious, they hung very low.
“How can I resist?” I said with a sigh.
My first bite was lovely, juice—divine;
but now, I must answer the dare.
I bought a peck and lugged them home;
a pie was their fate, I declared.
My family gave thanks to God above,
when the smell of the fruit filled the air.
The pie was so good, I baked one more,
the prize-winner named at the fair.
