Autumn soon will tighten its grip

Well traveled steps

by JLR

Walk with me among the trees
as they begin to shed their leaves.
This pathway traveled many a time.

Exhausted, the shriveled leaves
with colors going flat, are in transition.
A new mission; to decay and blend in the clay.

The shadows still give way to Autumn sun
as leaf upon leaf fall to the ground.
Building a blanket at the feet of the oak.

As Autumn shuffles into winter's grey,
the blanket of leaves will slowly brew
seeping into the earth their last bit'o spirit.

Preparing the feet of the mighty oak
to drink deep from mother earth so
in Spring a new leaf will be brought forth.
