Would you like to skate with an ungulate?
Would you say, “BOO!” to a gnu?
Would you be able to sit at a table
With a wildebeest or two?
 
And enjoy a cantaloupe with an African antelope?
The largest antelope of all;
Well, it could be fun because they’re just one,
And they answer to each name you call.
 
Yes, all those words mean the same animal
Though there are two species, you see;
The black wildebeest is the white-tailed gnu
And the blue gnu is smaller than he.
 
They are kinfolk to cattle and goats and sheep
But the gnu looks more like a cow
His backside slopes down and he’s got all that hair
He missed out on good looks, somehow.
 
They’re skinny and strong with black stripes and horns,
And big, bushy manes and beards
And I’ll whisper to you that I think the gnu
Really does look pretty weird.
