Robert Visits Thrifty Goods

by Boogienights

Robert Marcus Fredrick Dune
was shopping with mom this afternoon.
They were heading out to the grocery store
for eggs, bread, milk, and so much more.
Mom had promised that they could stop,
at the Thrifty Goods Store where she liked to shop.
Lot's of interesting stuff was found there,
everything was unique and the prices were fair.

Robert Marcus Fredrick Dune
picked out a metal airplane that went, Vroom!
His sister Holly reached out for a bunny,
that had long pink ears and was dressed really funny.
Mom told them both to pick out one toy each,
at the Thrifty Goods Store, most were put out of reach.
But mom was tall, so in the cart it all went.
"Better leave soon," mom said, "Before all our money is spent."

Robert Marcus Fredrick Dune
was leaving the Thrifty Goods Store WAY too soon.
He liked spending time there and thought it was fun.
But for now, mom said, "There's so much more to be done."
On the way out, Robert spotted a doll,
one that could walk and was almost as tall,
as Robert himself with the same colored hair.
He couldn't believe he'd missed seeing her there.

Robert Marcus Fredrick Dune
very much liked the airplane that went, Vroom!
But he liked the doll better and asked mom for a trade,
the doll cost a bit more, but a deal was soon made.
Robert would pay the difference with his money from chores.
Mom handed it to him and said, "It's all yours."
Then she smiled as Robert walked out with the doll,
he was happy he'd found the best toy of them all.

Robert Marcus Fredrick Dune
upon getting home ran up to his room.
He combed BECKY'S hair because that was her name.
Mom said she'd had a good friend whose name was the same.
Robert took time to scrub her, made sure she was clean,
then sat her in the best place where she could be seen.
He couldn't wait to show his friends she could talk
by pulling a string, and the way she could walk.

Robert Marcus Fredrick Dune
invited over his best friends, Brian, Michael, and June.
He was so excited to show them BECKY,
the coolest doll that they'd ever see.
June loved her at once and thought she was great.
While Brian just sat there and Michael said, "Wait!"
"Dolls are for girls!" Michael said with disdain.
"Why didn't you get a cool truck or a train?"

Robert Marcus Fredrick Dune
was feeling embarrassed up in his room.
Both Michael and Brian teased Robert that day
'till he wanted to throw his new doll away.
Then June said, "Stop!" "Robert, you like your doll,
and that is what matters most of all."
Then June said to Robert, "Let's play with her now."
and that made Robert feel better somehow.

Robert Marcus Fredrick Dune
was getting ready for school in his room.
It was decided that for third-grade show and tell,
that he would bring BECKY 'cause he liked her so well.
It was Junes idea, she was happy to say,
that she knew everyone would like BECKY that day.
Each student in the class had great things to show,
but Robert felt nervous, he just didn't know.

Robert Marcus Fredrick Dune
nervously stood in the third-grade room.
He pulled his doll out of the bag she was in,
as his classmates waited for him to begin.
He told how he'd found her and what she could do,
she talked with a pull-string and walked along too.
All of his classmates, EVEN the boys,
thought it was one of the very best toys!

Robert Marcus Fredrick Dune
was meeting his friends in the park around noon.
Brian, Michael, and June all came,
though Brian and Michael felt a little ashamed,
for teasing Robert about his new doll.
They learned that it wasn't so weird after all.
Boys could like dolls, they thought BECKY was cool,
they were happy that Robert had brought her to school.

Robert Marcus Fredrick Dune
was putting pajamas on up in his room.
Mom and Holly came in to say goodnight,
dad came later to turn off the wall light.
Robert said, "Dad, can I ask you something?"
"Are boys liking dolls an okay thing?"
Dad said, "When I was your age, I had a doll too."
Then Robert thought "WOW!" dad was totally cool.
