All the superstitions granny used to say
The unfounded
Though based upon wholly unfounded
All that granny had said
Of dreaming about lizards
Waking up on the wrong side of bed
Rabbit foot in the pocket
Enchanted bracelet
Were due in hoodoos
Candle flame turning blue
Standing by a dream catcher
Wearing new clothes for Easter
Socks inside out
Cold hands warm heart
Entering the room on a left foot
Counting buttons of an old boot
As by the curse of a gypsy
Got me whammied
The fork dropped
And bubbles stick to the side of a tea cup
There whistling at the table
After I broke the bottle
Toasting with a glass of water
Salt tossed over the shoulder
While apple seeds thrown in the fire popped her name
Drew me like moth to a flame
Throughout the horse shoe hanging in the doorway
Rosemary near the steps to ward off witches away
Walking under a ladder
To pick up a four leaf clover
By a broken mirror in low ebb
Seeing her initials on a spider's web
In the corner of a window where lay an acorn
I was ready to roll on cactus thorns
Crossed my heart and hope to die
No longer afraid to open an umbrella inside
Nor scared of unlucky numbers
In ease of a ghost in a rocking chair
I in the darkening afternoon
Strolled under a full moon
For well knocked on wood
Friday the thirteen understood
Making signs of the horoscope
In the streets shaped by a kaleidoscope
Had her as writing on the wall
That has me pin a doll
Three on a match
With a black cat crossing my path
My ears turning red
As a bird defecated on my head
This picture stole my soul
To where I was stepping on manholes
And to no luck of a beginner
Crossed fingers
Counting crows
I caught a twitch on my elbow
With the twixt neck of a jinxed bird
Walking backward
That by a pond full of fish
Had my palm itched
And seeing an owl in daylight
First butterfly of the year being white
Felt like the daisy oracles
Were consulting the flower petals
Expressing desires at eleven eleven
To the bees coming down from the heavens
Giving protection from spells
Breaking the awkward silence of passing angels
Who just got their wings
The bell ringing
Startled the pigeons from their perch
As the candles light up the church
And a clock which hasn't been working suddenly chimes
I turned in circle seven times
On the wing of a prayer
Tempting fate got thrown over
Like coins tossed in a fountain
And over the wishing well got spoken
Ladybug ladybug fly away home
But being true than any of the old wives tales in our customs
A wish up on a star
Is who you are
