The loneliness felt in an empty house

Silence

by Brenda Henderson

The sound is deafening; the silence I hear.

It thunders and roars and conjures up fears.

Of emptiness, loneliness, trouble and strife.

The kind that only come from a solitary life.

It echos through empty hallways and vacant rooms.

It sweeps through the house like a brand new broom.

The laughter, the tears of joy that once reigned here;

Were swept away like so many long past years.

A house no longer feels like a home when love dies.
