Boots Ain't Made For My Walkin'

by Reese Turner

Full Disclosure: I fail as a Texan -
With regards to "manly footwear".
You see, I own boots – it’s the law -
They’re in the closet. They stay there.

I just don’t like wearing boots
Sneakers are more comfy, I've found.
Slip-ons are easy to get on and off
Whether I’m up or laying down.

Do you toe-wiggle? I sure do!
But, when wearing boots, no way!
And, boots are hot in the Texas heat –
“Global warming”? Hotter every day!

What about snake protection, huh?
I try to not hit my ball where they’re at.
But, when I do hit one out into the bush,
I take the penalty, drop a ball and scat!

BTW, only golf shoes should lace up –
All my others are soft side and slip on
Now retired, those days of awful “Wingtips”
Are also, thankfully, long gone!

Footwear writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Write a POEM in any style and to any length with the theme of FOOTWEAR.
Will you write about tennis shoes? hiking boots? stiletto heels? slippers?

Yes, grammar purists, I know there is one sentence which ends in a preposition. But, sometimes grammar must take a back seat to rhyme and this is one of those times. Just put on your shoes and go for a walk and try to get past it... Let me also note that my original intent was to poetically lament the volume of shoes in my closets when I had one wife and three daughters living at home. That poem would have simply been too long and too troubling...
