This work has reached the exceptional level
Pride comes before a fall

The Bush Telegraph

by Aussie

Bell bird called across valley floor
Whip bird answered bell bird's call
Mrs Wombat heard warning and saw
Thunder clouds above mountains tall

Father Peacock danced in the rain
Showing his beauty to others fragile
All small critters raced to safe lane
Hiding from deluge for awhile

Mother pea-hen screeched a warning
Her plumage brown and dull
Too late she cried, his pride dawning
Deluge swept him away; then a lull

Clouds opened to a sun-filled day
All bush animals wept for him
Being beautiful he did play
Bullet-proof, is it a sin?

Pride came before his fall
Humility, he never knew
Proud and arrogant strutting his all
Feathers ruined, cold and blue

He used to strut like others do
Then he fell, tall poppies swayed
Cut down by the wind that blew
Avian antics he never played

Here's a lesson to humans alike
Beauty is within us all
Take the scene of Peacock's blight
Pride comes before a fall

Contest entry: Share a story in poem. The most beautiful of the birds did fall because his pride came first. Humans too will fall, no one is more beautiful than another. All men were created equal. Thanks for reading my friends.
