Battleground

Johnson still brewed his first coffee of the day at 7.30a.m. Looking in the bathroom mirror, he trimmed his beard carefully.
His briefcase, on the kitchen counter, had a light layer of dust.

Suddenly he paced the kitchen floor, clenching his fist.
'Damn it,' he murmured, 'hitting forty and redundant. I'm one of life's losers.'

He wondered if Natasha would return. She'd stayed away longer this time than ever before.
Who'd blame her? Her, a successful therapist, and him ...a..... clerk, now replaced by a ...cheaper and more efficient employee...a robot.

His phone pinged. Natasha's SMS, ' Beat the Bots!'
