He Brought Me Flowers

by Barb Hensongispsaca

I have a little story that I want to tell to you.
It started out as happy, but I did not have a clue.

My husband gave me flowers, he was such a darling lad.
I always got the biggest bunch whenever I was mad.

I got some mums when he was late or working out of town.
He gave me long stemmed roses on the times that I felt down.

Carnations were his flower of choice when I felt so alone.
I loved the lilies that he gave when he forgot to phone.

The tiny, perfect daisies he brought me at dinnertime -
they always had a florist card and ditsy little rhyme.

He gave me fresh forget-me-nots when I was quite depressed.
He even brought me flowers for no reason, so I guessed.

He gave me lots of flowers, then I finally found out why.
He saw the florist on the side, his love was full of lies.

I told the cops he slipped and fell while going up the stairs.
His 'flower girl' won't say a word, and I think that's just fair.

So come and celebrate with me the reading of his will,
'cause now the only flowers are the ones up on the hill.
