Dedicated to all Police Officers

Police Officers' Prayer

by Willie P. Smith

God grant me the strength to live by my oath
And stand firm in my belief,
Help me forgive and bear no ill will
Toward those who have caused me grief.

Shelter my brothers and sisters in arms,
Who have fallen in the fight.
Let their stars, lit by your love
Shine brightly through the night.

Give me your blessings as I go forth
To enforce the laws of our land,
If you find time, among your Godly chores
Please lend me a helping hand.

Grant me the mercy to not prejudge
Those who might be at blame.
Let me find some justice at last,
I ask it all in your name.

.....Amen.....

I wrote this poem in 1981 when the San Diego Police Dept. Was losing officers to violence. It has been read on radio and TV, and a card with
the prayer is carried by many officers in cities and countries. It was
displayed on the wall of the National Police Memorial, in D.C.
The second stanza is engraved on a monument in front of the SDPD.
The entire poem is also engraved on a memorial in the El Camino Police Cemetery in San Diego, Ca. (May God bless the fallen)
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
