knocking on doors

Outside my Comfort Zone

by Jesse James Doty

Whatever doors I walk through
I'm still standing outside,
as if peering through a window
at celebrations gone awry.

I see disconnected
self-indulgent creatures,
who pretend to be alive.
All I want to do is hide.
Hug me from the inside.

My curiosity, I need to retrieve,
to let my imagination breathe...

Although invisible,
I won't remain that way.
I'm outside my comfort zone,
stepping through doors
into worlds otherwise unknown.
