Farmers pray for rain

Heavens Tears

by Aussie

Crimson skies, red-rimmed eyes
Farmers pray for rain
Shorn sheep carry blue dyes
How long must they suffer pain?

Mother Earth cracked and bleeding
Red-brick patterned ground
Molasses licks, meagre feeding
Lightning strikes, hellish sound

Two years pass, dust bowl lair
Crows circle with vicious beaks
Rip and tear carcass bare
Dying stock; from blood leaks

Bruised clouds gather overhead
Rumble of thunder gathers spaces
Hats off! Men shout to skies of lead
Tears mingle on rain-soaked faces
