Do not let Anxiety rule your life

Anxiety the Unexpected Guest

by Flyaway1

Anxiety, you knocked on my door.
You slipped right into my house.
I stared at the floor;
what next?

You sat at my table with my friends,
monopolizing the conversation;
you broke up my party and made no amends.
My guests soon departed; but not you.

Now, you are squatting in my house,
stinking it up with fear.
Anxiety, you are like a mouse,
crawling all around.

I do not want you here.
Can you please leave?
You constantly whisper in my ear
lies that deceive me.

My friends do not come to see me.
Anxiety, you are in every room.
Tomorrow, I will fight for my key.
I will change the locks.

Anxiety, be very clear,
this is an eviction.
Someone strong lives here--
the door will slam you out.

Rhyming Poem contest entry

I first started having panic attacks in college. I did not know what they were. It scared me. Eventually, I found out that I suffered with anxiety and the panic attacks no longer frightened me. It was many years later that I learned there was medication to help me. It changed my life not having to spend all my time fighting the anxiety. I was able to succeed at college. I had room in my mind for life and laughter.
