Love in the Bayou

by June Sargent

Love in the Bayou

My dreams transport me every night
to summer days so warm and hazy
Beneath the weeping willow trees
The fish were jumping out like crazy

With hands and hearts conjoined together
We kissed and loved with blissful ease
The fish were jumping out like crazy
Beneath the weeping willow trees

When promises could not be kept
Hope withered like a day old daisy
Beneath the weeping willow trees
The fish were jumping out like crazy

Despite the many years gone past
Your whispers live in summer's breeze
The fish were jumping out like crazy
Beneath the weeping willow trees
