How Mankind Came To Be

by bob cullen

I lay in the moonlight beneath a canopy of stars
On a bed of soft clover searching for Neptune and Mars
My eyes see only vastness and a distance far beyond
As my mind questions the meaning it simply can't respond
Who created this existence, scientists can't agree
Does evolution near explain how mankind came to be

Next morning I watch the sun, it delivers us from night
Stars retreat in the birth of day someone has planned it right
And then I look around me at the beauty of this land
I glance up to the heavens and I start to understand
There must be a creator it's the one answer I see
Evolution just can't explain how mankind came to be

I go into a church and I seek out the word of God
Read of the miracles he worked and the places he trod
The Wedding feast at Cana, he changed water into wine
The raising of Lazarus was one more Almighty sign
Came to earth and died for us on a cross on Calvary
To me this proves my belief of how mankind came to be

I know that science argues life goes back millions of years
Much of our behavior is driven by guilt and by fears
But I prefer to believe my God's always just and fair
And if I should fall into doubt I say a silent prayer
Or I find a clover bed and stare upwards till I see
The answer to my question of how mankind came to be
