When I Was But

by poetsteve15

When I Was But!

When I was but a child, I had thought
I would know just how to figure things out,
 then become part of what it was all about;
whatever it will be, will be.
Now my life begins, thank God;
that was not the way; it was be at all
not for me anyways.
I think I had to keep things moving.
We're always changing as we grow.
We are molded by love and trips
around the sun, it takes a long time
to build a new soul; as we get older
hopefully wiser, we might even gain
a little grace. But we are not finished yet,
we haven’t yet, let life begin,
 or end. I think that’s the gift of living,
it's the joy of just being alive!
I can not brag about my love,
for God, because I fail him daily,
but I can brag about his love
for me because it never fails me.
