A peptalk to our non-writing members

It's A Damn Hard Grind

by bob cullen

It's a Damn Hard Grind

We started out as a group filled with great intent
But somewhere 'long the way it sunk like wet cement
Now on our third birthday it's time to start again
So head back to the 'puter motivate your brain
Writing don't come easy the right word's hard to find
Some days you don't go nowhere it's a damn hard grind

We quickly master the old art of excuses
Reasons to put off we blame it on our muses
Really what we must do is write a bit each day
Treat it as a game writing's our new form of play
So set aside an hour to exercise the mind
Some days you won't go nowhere it's a damn hard grind

Once you find your rhythm the words will start to flow
You'll have a thousand words before you even know
Go sit at your computer don't dare hesitate
Think about your characters you decide their fate
Who is good, who is bad, who's nasty and who's kind?
Who will win the lady, God's it's a damn hard grind

This is my weekly pep talk now get up and go
Grab a pen and paper go to the place you know
Sit at your messy desk turn on the old laptop
When you've typed a thousand words then you can stop
Some days words comes easy next day it's like you're blind
Struggling authors know writing it's a damn hard grind

I belong to a small writing group where only one or two want to write. So every month I post a piece begging for contributions. Generally they attract the same response. Nil.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
