Old Piano Keys

Old Piano Keys

Yesterday there was a battle
On a field once grazed by cattle
Now today there is the rattle
It's from an old piano's keys

A lone voice belts out a sad song
About a world that's turned so wrong
He's been a soldier much too long
Misses his old piano keys

Voice is a bit strained and scratchy
And the music is way off key
But words carry the melody
Along with old piano keys

His battles remain, he still sees
Struggles with wasted memories
History now dictates that he
Seeks peace in old piano keys

Today at last he is at peace
His battle scars have found release
Then came the sound that must not cease
The chime of old piano keys

This was written in response to an old photo of a Serbian soldier armed with a machine gun slung across his shoulder. The soldier is seated at a piano in a middle of a paddock surrounded by trees
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
