An annual problem for gardeners.

by Jaye Bennett

An ant. I saw an ant.
I had just cleaned produce
brought in from the garden, and
I saw an ant. An ant.
The next day, of course,
I saw an ant. In fact, I saw two.
The next day there will be four,
of course, or even more.
An invasion. I must fight,
find where they come in
and spray to kingdom come.
I have won the skirmish,
the ants have retreated, but
year to year, the war rages on.

Thanks to cleo85 for her photo Solenopsis.

I don't spray ants. That was just poetic license. Cotton balls doused with peppermint oil really works rather well. Just place them ants usually show up, and they tend to say goodbye rather quickly.
