As Snowfall Sings

When snowfall sings a song of whispered sound
among the branches of the forest deep
soft flakes fall from the sky to frozen ground

Encased within the copses can be found
bare willows holding back the tears they weep
when snowfall sings a song of whispered sound

Entangled vines among the trees have wound
all twined about the brambles in a heap
soft flakes fall from the sky to frozen ground

The blowing layers gather in a mound
creating banks of windblown shapes so steep
when snowfall sings a song of whispered sound

As winter swirls and dampens all around
and nature’s creatures quietened silence keep
soft flakes fall from the sky to frozen ground

These woods in pristine white are robed and gowned
preparing for a long abiding sleep
when snowfall sings a song of whispered sound
