Words Have Their Own Power

by dragonpoet

I hear the doorbell ring
"Who is it this time ", I think.
Maybe the guest will bring
Me to the brink

Of voting for their man
Or woman: looking through
The window I just can
Not compute that person I see.

It is Clark Kent at my door.
He seems patient, but angry.
My stomach has just hit the floor.
Why has he come to see me?

I, nervously, welcome him in
Just so I'm sure, he flashes his "S".
He says, "Let's sit down and begin."
I answer, "I must confess

I don't know how you know me... Why you're here."
He hit me with a surprised glare.
And said , "You're not using your super power, I fear."
"I don't know what it is to be fair."

"So you can't fly and don't have X-ray eyes
But my nine-to-five during the day
Has its own power that you can try.
Words alter things in many ways.

Whether it's poetry or prose,
Your words have power
To bring people's lives a new lease
In just a few days or a few hours.

So, if you want no more visits from me
Use your power to make the world what it's meant to be."
